Our History
Central Baptist Church had its earliest beginnings
in 1963 when under the authority of Bethlehem Baptist
Temple of Ludlow, KY; a mission was established in Mt.
Vernon. Originally, members of the Bethlehem Baptist
Mission assembled in a
home. Soon, however a
storefront was secured
on West Main Street
in the Fairground Hill
area.
On June 5th,
1964, the Bethlehem
Baptist Mission was
organized into Central
Baptist Church with 20
charter members.
In September 1964, the church purchased 1.35 acres on which
the church building and parsonage now stand.
The members and visitors of the Central Baptist
Church enjoy church “the way it used to be”, with Spirit
filled singing and Old Fashioned Bible Preaching. Currently,
Central Baptist Church directly supports over 30 missionaries
throughout America and across the world. With missionaries
in the United States, Panama, Australia, Argentina,
Germany, Fiji Islands, West Africa, India, Cuba, Columbia,
Mexico, China, Philippines, to the Nation of the Zuni Indians,
Ecuador, Jamaica, and (2) missions here in Kentucky.
On
Sunday mornings there are classes for every age and nursery
is provided for every service. On Sunday Morning during the
adult worship service, there is JR. church for children and on
Wednesday evening the children enjoy the “Patch the Pirate”
club. CBC runs (3) buses, for every service, bringing in as
many as 40-50 boys, girls, moms and dads; and are currently
looking to start a bus route to the North end of the county.
